Joining
the Hawks up Mt Hamilton , February 3 2002
The SF Bay Area Alpers were invited to join the local Hawks in climbing
Mt Hamilton. It turns out I was the only Alper not hooked on the Super
Bowl and joining the ride.
Note: The camera used is a Canon EOS D30 digital camera (3MP).

also. The average picture is about 100kB and a panorama is 200kB.

We assembled in the morning at Road Rider in San Jose. I left fremont
with sun but San Jose was still a bit fogged in. |

The ride up was a bit more spectacular than expected. We had to deal
with patches of frozen snow, black ice and lots of loose sand and gravel. |

The right picture shows some of the fog in San Jose. In the left picture
you can see the snow peaks of the Sierra's on the horizon. The center picture
has a beautiful panorama! |

The center picture is the spot where tragedy struck.... This
shady spot had a solid layer of ice, noticed too late by one of the riders
and she hit the deck. Luckily no injuries to the person but the bike was
unfit to continue its journey because of a disabled front brake system. |

We left the bike at this spot, not visible from the main road and headed
down Hamilton on the San Jose side, where we came from. Most of the pack,
unaware of what happened, continued the trip towards Mines Road. |
